Seeing as how we’re coming up on the anniversary of the passing of one of my favorite artists, I thought I’d share a bit to honor his work.

Charley Harper was an artist, primarily an illustrator, based out of Cincinnati, Ohio who painted incredibly simple, but compelling illustrations of wildlife.

His work was focused primarily on wildlife and is available from Harper’s official studio as prints, posters, calendars, books, etc.

I really connect with Charley Harper’s style for some reason. There’s no doubt that, even if you’re not familiar with the name Charley Harper, you’d probably recognize some of his work. It’s a very unique style that is easy to recognize.

Charley himself called it “minimal realism,” which is a term he used to describe his process of capturing the overall essence of a subject while at the same time keeping the detail as minimal as possible.

Some of his more famous works include:

Red & Fed

Canyon Country

A Good World

A Ladybug Sampler

Birdfeeders

Birdie

Cardinal Close-Up

And I’m sure I’m missing a few important ones there but those are some of the pieces I personally like.

Charley Harper died in June, 2007 after a bout with pnemonia. He was 84 years old and his work will be missed.

I found a tool the other day that I had to tell my peeps about. It’s called AreMyLinksUp.com and it’s a backlink monitoring tool that is designed to track your really important backlinks (those links you paid for or guest blog posts or high pr directory links or link exchanges).

I have to say the app kicks ass and I haven’t found anything out there like it to date.

According to the help pages, it’s made for keeping an eye on your important backlinks. It checks those links at regular intervals and if anything about them changes (in any negative way), it sends you an email.

So this thing has saved me an enormous amount of time. I have tons of link exchanges going for a few projects I’m working on and it’s practically impossible to go look at those links every few weeks to make sure they’re still online. It just takes way too much freaking time. So what happens? I end up saving all those links in excel (if I even get that far) and not ever really checking to make sure they’re still online and nothing about them changes.

So I found this program which does all that for me…in fact, it tracks everything I need, including the following:

If the link is supposed to be do-followed, has it been no-followed?

Has the pagerank dropped?

Has the link been removed?

Has the page the link is on been restricted by the robots.txt file?

Is the anchor text what it’s supposed to be?

Is the site even still online? (I never realized how often these sites go offline until I started using this app)

Another big thing I’ve noticed is that I’m a member of a few high pr networks for those same projects I mentioned above. Those networks are regularly being slapped by the big G and getting their pagerank dropped.

Ever since I started using AreMyLinksUp.com I’m usually the first to know when a network slap happens because I get an email with about 40 notifications in it saying PR has dropped on a ton of my network links.

It’s kind of crazy how often these PR networks get slapped and I’ve realized I’m glad to rent rather than own one.

Anyway, I wholeheartedly recommend AreMyLinksUp.com. Check it out, it’s free to track 500 links, which is way more than I’m ever going to need.

To replace a hard drive, first disconnect power from the system. Remove the controller, data, and power cables from the unit. Next, remove the mounting hardware and remove the drive. Install the new drive and attach the power and controller cables. Check the drive documentation and determine the drive type. The drive type finds certain disk parameters, such as number of heads, sectors, and the total megabyte storage capacity. This information is provided with a new drive, or can be obtained from reference books.

Once you have determined the drive type, power up the system and will CMOS setup program. Enter the new drive type number when prompted. If the drive type is not available, many bios manufacturers offer a type XLVII, user-defined option. The user-defined type allows you to manually enter each drive parameter as requested, thus creating a new drive type.

The next step is preparing the disk for use. When you boot up the first time after a new drive installation, you must use a floppy disk at with DOS on it. Place the disk into drive A, and power up the computer. If you have an MFM or RLL drive, perform a low-level format, partition, and high level format. If installing an IDE drive, partition and high level format only. After formatting, install DOS and other software is needed. Run a disk diagnostic program to verify everything is okay. If the computer is booted with DOS 5.0, it will automatically prompt you to partition and format the hard disk.

As mentioned earlier, and FMM and RLL drives are harder to come by and more expensive than a comparable IDE. It’s usually a good idea to suggest an upgrade. The customer gets a faster drive and benefits from increased performance. If you a professional, please contact Cincinnati Computer Repair.

While making the website many things like width, display of web page, Cincinnati Web Design, should be taken into consideration. Resolutions on screen, font size, page layout etc. are some of the other important things to consider. Another vital aspect of any website is usage of color scheme. Colors are a sensitive and fascinating perspective to reckon with. If you are making your own website then one important aspect to consider is the website color scheme. Since the choices are many, selecting the right scheme becomes a tough choice. Elementary colors need to be judiciously used.

Maintaining a Perfect Balance

Much before you decide on color combinations, the web content, web layout and fonts should be given priority. Make sure a right balance is maintained and then the colors should be progressively updated. Visitors get impressed with a great Web Design Cincinnati, with appealing colors. This helps to create an eye catching and attractive website. On the online source a tool called color scheme designer helps in deciding the right color. A basic color selection is first done and then monochromatic and analogical selection is done by the tool. The tool then selects complementary colors.

To ensure you get the best combination try out different shades to complement colors in the Cincinnati Website Design. Monochromatic colors are used by many of the website designers where a basic color is selected consisting of many shades. For example the basic color yellow can have shades like light yellow, dark yellow, lemon yellow, etc. In the case of analogical colors, the selection can be assisted by neighbor and complementary base color schemes. Different interesting shades can be sparingly used in various combinations. The color tool also helps blend three colors resulting in triadic colors. This color helps adding great contrast and providing the website a professional look.

Color Scheme Tools

Different Web Designer Cincinnatitools for color schemes can be availed. Color palettes of various types are available online called Color Lovers. These are ideal for picking some of the most popular scheme of colors. Color schemes allow convenient use by Adobe Kuler. Particular software will be needed for downloading Adobe Kuler. To find out how a bunch of colors work on the computer screen the Color Combos color tool proves to be effective. For creating modern colors the tool ColorSuckr can be used.

It is no rocket science trying to select a perfect color scheme today. Over the web, simple and unique software for web development and designing are easily available. Visit the sites, read the instructions properly and understand the working of color tool. While deciding on color schemes, the Website Designers Cincinnatimake sure that readers find the site pleasing enough to read and these schemes really helps. Few choices like yellow shade over blue, black over beige, white color over green, yellow or white over dark grey, or dark shade of blue over light blue are great to consider. The job of selecting colors is challenging, but an effective impact is created on the overall appearance.

Every business that uses a crane or has a crane on its premises should be aware of crane inspections.

Most jurisdictions in the US including most states will require some sort of inspection for larger cranes. Cranes used in construction may have to be inspected on a regular basis usually every year.

Local Crane Inspections

Some cities; such as New York, require large construction cranes to be inspected because of well publicized accidents. These municipalities may have a safety inspector who will drop by on a regular basis and observe crane operations.

Overhead cranes could be subject to these regulations as well. In particular, overhead cranes and gantry crane that are part of free standing structures and large jib cranes could be subject to such regulations.

When overhead and gantry cranes, not to mention a bridge crane, are attached to a building they could be could be subject to building codes and local building inspections. In some areas these cranes could also be regulated by fire codes.

It is always a good idea to contact local government before installing or setting up a crane to see what regulations are required. In some areas inspection and a permit could be required for the operation of a crane.

Federal Crane Inspections

In the United States all industrial equipment such as cranes is regulated by the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (popularly known as OSHA). OSHA creates and enforces standards for cranes, hoists and derricks.

These standards are available on OSHA’s website and they are enforced by OSHA compliance officers. There are specific regulations for construction cranes, and cranes used in the shipping and marine industries.

State Crane Inspections

In addition to OSHA, twenty five state governments regulated and inspect cranes according to OSHA approved standards. A business or individual that sets up a large crane should contact the state government to see what regulations and inspections will apply to it.

Those who operate cranes without inspection or approval could face fines or orders to cease operations. Some states may also have specific regulations that apply certain kinds of cranes or cranes used in certain businesses or industries.

Private Bridge Crane Inspections

There are some cases where a crane will have to be inspected by a trained crane engineer or technician. This individual will usually be provided by the crane manufacturer or another company.

This restriction usually only applies to very large cranes such as those used in construction and shipping. Those operating a large crane are often required to get it inspected by a crane engineer whenever they do any sort of repair or service work on the crane.

Large gantry and overhead cranes could be subject to such inspections in some parts of the country. Any crane that sits on its own superstructure or gantry could be subject to such professional inspections.

There may also be a requirement that a crane be inspected by a crane engineer or technician on a regular basis usually once a year in order to remain in operation. The cost of these inspections will usually be born by the crane’s owner.

Most people go about designing a new website for their business entirely wrong. Generally the process starts by searching the internet for web designers in the area and asking around to find some referrals of web designers your contacts have worked with. This is a great start, but here’s where it takes a wrong turn. If you need help, contact web design Cincinnati and they should be able to design a website that sells.

Your Website is for Selling

Now, you may decide you want a pretty website online just for the sake of having a website online, with no intention to every make any money from it. But then you’d be crazy. The only purpose of a business website is to make you money. That’s it. There’s no other purpose. It’s not online to impress your friends or to win design awards…your business website exists for the sole purpose of generating leads and/or sales for your business. SEO Cincinnati is a company that is highly focused on designing websites that sell. They focus exclusively on optimizing their website designs so that they convert the maximum number of visitors into customers.

So why then, if the only purpose of a business website is to generate business, are people so focused on the appearance? Of course every company wants to like their website…at least to some extent, but do you really have to nitpick the minor details of a design and adjust them to your own personal preference? If you answer yes to this question, then let me ask you another.

Which is more important, that you like how your website looks or that it makes you money? I sure hope you answered that it makes you money, otherwise take out an ad in the paper and liquidate your company because it’s only a matter of time before you get stomped by your competition.

A Web Design Must Sell

There’s absolutely no question at all that a business website is for generating more business. That’s it. Now I know some of you out there are saying, “Well, can’t I have a website that I like and it makes money?” Sure you can, but it should be pretty much by accident.

You should define the goals of your new website, and nowhere in that list of goals should be “I want to like it.” In most cases, the primary goal of a website should be to generate leads and/or sales.

After the website is designed to be highly optimized to generate leads and/or sales, and only after that’s done, take a look at it. If you like it, great, you’ve got a website you like. If you hate it, too bad. Suck it up and remember that the purpose of the new web design is not so you can show it off to your collegues. The purpose of the new web design is to sell, sell sell!

Are You Lost Yet?

One problem with this line of thinking that I’ll freely admit is, if you don’t judge your new website based on asthetics, what can you judge it on? What else is there? I’m glad you asked.

The top 3 things you should be concerned with, in order of importance, are:

Is there a clear path to take the visitor from arrival to the primary goal? In other words, if you want people to submit a contact form to request more information, is it clear to the visitor what you offer, and what they have to do to find out more? Is there anything at all that could make that unclear to the visitor?

Is there any web design bloat? In other words, is there anything in the design that serves no other purpose than to look pretty? If so, get rid of it.

Is the design professional? I add this bullet point here because, while you certainly don’t have to like your website for it to sell effectively, you don’t want it to look like it was done by a 3rd grader. Your website is the first experience many people will ever have with your company. You want it to be as simple, easy, efficient, and professional as possible.

I know from experience that this line of thinking will not be popular among many business owners. In my experience, the primary focus when a business owner has a new website designed is whether or not that business owner likes the design. If she doesn’t like it, she requests a change. If she likes it, she approves.

My only hope with this article is that it convinces some of you that whether or not you like your website is irrelevant. It doesn’t exist for you to like it; it exists to sell. And when you make things easy, simple, and efficient for your visitors, you’ll sell. Don’t believe me? Look at Amazon.com. They spend enormous amounts of time testing what design sells more products; and the site they have now is incredibly simple with a focus on the products and ease of navigation through the checkout process.

It’s possible that it was renamed to some new app or something like that so if that’s the case, it would be found under it’s new name, but again, we’re not totally sure what that is. Some details about it:

Supports Facebook Profiles and Pages

Manage multiple connections

Post tweets as Facebook status updates

Post links you tweet on your Facebook wall

Ignore @replies

Change @mentions to real names

Only post the tweets you specify to Facebook

Track links posted to Facebook with awe.sm

What is Facebook

Facebook is a social networking application/website launched by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 from his dorm room at Havard.

The site was originally made to be limited to Havard students as a way to keep in touch with each other, but was expanded after some time to include several colleges in the Boston area as well as Stanford University and a few other Ivy League schools.

Facebook really started to take off between 2007 and 2009 as more and more college students started to become members. It over took MySpace around 2009 as the most popular social networking site online, and since then, it’s grown massively.

Both Compete.com and Alexa rank Facebook as the 2nd most trafficked website in the world, only after Google.

Pop Culture

Facebook was the subject of the movie, “The Social Network,” starring

What is Twitter

Twitter is a micro-blogging application/website that allows users to register and subsequently post short messages (up to 144 characters in length) about anything they want. Twitter was launched in 2006, only 2 years after Facebook, and very quickly exploded in popularity, reaching 200 million users as of the time of this writing and generating over 65 million “Tweets” every day.

High-profile celebrities and major world events helped to catapult Twitter to stardom as millions of fans were able to follow the lives of their favorite celebrities and events such as the recent Earthquake in Haiti were reported on in real-time by people on the ground.

Some people even attribute the “Arab Spring” largely to Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites that have allowed people to connect with each other on a level never before imagined.
